Lisa's Baby shower

Its that time in all our lives, friends are getting married and even more amazingly they are starting to have children. This is a very special time in all of our lives. The mom to be and the best friend who gets to make her one special day, one she won't ever forget.

I was recently asked to help Megan with Lisa's baby shower. This was a real honour for me, because Lisa has been one of my best friends for many years now, and has always been with me through thick and thin. But if you know Lisa, its also quiet the challenge. I wanted to make the day perfect and to me this means having the perfect CAKE.

Lisa is having a little girl, this means TONS of pink and lots of CUTE. I decided i wanted to make a 3D teddy bear cake for my special friend. Only problem i have never done this before and while i enjoy baking (and am getting better) i have not nearly mastered the art of things "cute and culinary ". But i persisted and was very excited about the outcome.

Because baby showers are all about the baby i decided to personalise the cupcakes with a little thank you note from Casey the baby to be !!!!

All in all we all have a lovely day, and Lisa absolutely adored her cake and little cupcakes. And all the ladies went home filled with loads of LOVE. Cause that's what we do here at "LOVE CAKE"

Love Cake

So its been a hectic few months. But as they say hard work pays off or good things come to those who wait. Well Avalon Events now has another company under her umbrella and its called "LOVE CAKE" because we all do. The nice thing about love cake is its all the love and none of the fat!!!! How great is that ................. you can now have your cake and eat it!

With such a HYPE about the healthy way of living and the importance of eating right, so many of us are missing out on the really great things in life. My man is a health Junkie (for lack of a better word) but he won't eat anything that even looks like its gonna increase his waist line. I decided that i need to come up with something that he could enjoy and still look as good as he does.

Now don't get me wrong i still have those extra special tasty one for the little kiddies in my life. Cause kids are meant to be spoilt, but i use sugar free (not taste free) so that they can eat as many as they like without loosing out on the money from the tooth mouse (due to bad teeth).

I can hear you asking "if it's got no sugar how can it be nice?" well i'll let you know that it is better than good. But i'll let you be the judge.

We offer birthday cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes, tarts, biscuits any anything you can eat. So don't forget to add some LOVE to your next event.

As mentioned in an earlier blog, i have been learning to bake! i cannot explain how much fun i am having. I design beautiful artworks which are great to look at (or so i think) but the best part is when someone takes a bit and their faces light up .............. they love it!

It has not been easy and a few tears have been shed along the way. I have tried to teach myself everything that i have learnt, Google is such a great tool, you can find anything you can dream of . This would be how i learnt to do all the wonderful things i am now able to do.

With the great friends and family i had orders coming from all directions ....... which was great only problem, I still did not really know what i was doing. But as they say sink or swim.................. i swam and now thanks to the support and belief of others i create some really beautiful edible artworks.

New adventures

Hello all you lovely people!!!

Its been such a long time since i wrote to let you all know whats going on with me, but i have some really exciting things to report. Since the last time ,my business has stayed rather the same. Its been a bit slow but i guess it is winter here are the moment! We will have to wait for summer to see. But i am currently working on an amazing fashion show which i hope to have ready by spring day. Its a charity event and something that is very close to my heart. I am as i am sure you have noticed a kids person, they are a ray of sunshine on a rainy day. A friendly smile when nothing seems to be going your way. AND they have nothing to gain from it, so you always know it is straight from the heart. So my fashion show is being held to raise money for a school that has opened for children who don't have a place to stay, have no way of getting and education or just a warm place to lay there heads down after something good to eat. Then i have also started helping out at a new spa which opened up in the Cape Quarter Building in Greenpoint. I really love this place because although they have not cut any corners when it comes to decor and style. They have a price list that fits anyone's budget. Don't believe me, have a look below.

I thought i would share some of the beautiful things i have found a long my way. Things that have inspired me to be who i am today, as well as where i am today. These things are both simple and mesmerizing. They are breathtaking and at the same time one would nearly not even realise they were there had you not been looking at the right place at the right moment.

I have decided to focus today's blog on the people that make my life a bit easier. Today i am going to focus on not only my best friend in the whole world but also one the the best photographers i know. Her photos are amazing, why? because she tends to get in there where the action is happening and takes photos that a lot of people might miss. Apart from being a great photographer she is one hell of a retoucher. Which means that when you receive your photos she had taken out the kid picking his nose in the background, or the dog licking the cake (only joking). She makes every photo special, because she understands that you only live that moment once, but having the perfect pictures can capture it for a lifetime.
Since before i started doing events, Candice has been at every family function, be it a birthday, a braai, or something as special as a wedding. She has been there with her camera and its thanks to her that we have so many amazing photos of these special moments.

Here are some pictures of my sisters wedding that i helped arrange. Candice took the most amazing photos of the layout. While the wedding photographer was busy with the Bride and Groom she managed to get the most amazing photo's of the guests.

The last photo's are an example of how amazing she is at retouching. I have added the before and after picture to show you what a difference it can make to your photos. She even went as far as to give me blue eyes (i am in love). As you can see she puts a lot of effort into her work. Candice can also restore old photos, change them even add people into them (for that guy who missed the wedding ).

As you can see Candice is a brilliant photographer, her work speaks for it self, which is why i use her for all my events. I would recommend her for every event that i do, and i do!!! If you would like to use Candi at your next event please leave me a message and i will send you her details.

Weddings and other formal events

Weddings and formal events is something i am really looking forward to getting involved in. The idea of creating all those beautiful flower arrangements, coming up with the perfect menu. Transforming an empty venue into a magical dream come true. To see the face of the bride as she walks into the room, knowing that you have managed to create exactly what she has dreamed of since she was a little girl, must be the most amazing feeling.

I still have tons to learn and am so excited about all the new adventures i will be taking. Learning to arrange flowers and baking the perfect cake, is what i am currently studying. Then its on to hotel school to learn how to make all the yummy food. For now i have a chef, but later i would like to do it all myself!! Maybe one day I'll even be making you that perfect wedding dress.

Kiddies events

Its been a very busy week, apart from the fact that my brother in law Miles came to visit us from New York. Which was such a great surprise. This past week, i got my kiddies party business started. I can't explain how excited i am about this, kids are so special.

I know that we are going to make tons of little girls and boys feel that much more special on their birthdays. We have 6 different party sets at the moment. If we don't have what the little one needs, we will go out and find it. If they can dream it, we can make it.

Launch of Cougar Lounge

My lovely friends who support me every step of the way, thanks ladies your all amazing.

Its been a busy busy week, and i have not had much time to write. But now the week has come to and end and what i have not done is NOT getting done. Tomorrow is my first official event since i have gone on my own. I am freaked out and oh so excited. I am worried that its going to flop cause this time i don't have my team mates to help me along the way. But i have triple checked everything and can't think that i have missed anything LOL let hope i am right!!!

Recently (my last event at Cougar Lounge) i was asked to organise the Official Launch for Cougar Lounge, my budget was small but i had to make it an amazing event. This took a lot of thinking and even more begging and pleading which i am not very good at. But lucky for me i have made some really great friends along the way, who were more than happy to help me out.

I wanted a Hollywood feeling with limos and Gorgeous people. I contacted my friend Nanette who works for executive Limos (cape town), i wanted to know if she could arrange a good price for me. Well this little angel not only got it for free but she got me 3 for both nights.

I also wanted the girls to look the part, we decided to ask Nicholas from YDE to design us a dress that would not only be workable but make us look SEXY. Well i can tell you that man was made to design, we looked stunning.

I contacted all my suppliers and asked if they could help me out with free stock, so that i could give all the guests free drink and snacks. They were all so great and at the end of the night i was giving each guest a booklet with 5 free drinks. They loved this as you can imagine. My favourite drink was the Slush Margarita, it was watermelon flavour, which sound weird but i promise its a must try. Its so good, you will never want to drink anything else again.

One of my very good friend Jasna (who writes columns for various fashion mags), also took time out of her very busy schedule to come and support me for this event. She wrote the nicest blog about this event for me, thanks Jay your the best. Her man Mike also joined us and he is the one who took all these lovely photos that you see. I am truly blessed to have all these wonderful people in my life.

All the guests were driven around in the limo on the evening, which seemed to go down really well, all in all everyone had such a great time and by the end of the night the party was in full swing and nobody wanted to go home. It go so good that we even had a few of the bachelorette up on the bar dancing their hearts out one last time.

Now its off to bed, for the big event tomorrow, wish me luck.

Bibi gone wild

Ok So my sister's getting married, and i was given the lovely job of creating the BEST last night of Freedom. Easy..................... not!!! When you have a sister like mine, who is wild and wonderful but a bit on the crazy side. Trying to come up with something NEW is a bit of a trick. But what an honour it was to be asked, she deserved only the best!

I decided to do something at the house, because anywhere else we would have been asked to leave !!!! I hired a pole dancer, to give her a few tips she could use once the magic started to fade away. A girl can never have too many tricks up her sleeve!! The pole dancer was such a great chick, who had us all laughing and blushing at the same time. I would recommend her anytime.

She really wanted to go out as well, i thought that it would be great if we were all dressed the same or similar. My whole theme was that it was her last night on the prowl and decided to dress her up as a devil. This got me thinking that i would be really cute if everyone wore horns.

My grandmother was among the guests (she is 81), well if anyone tells you age is a big thing come speak to her. This old lady was on that pole more than my sister was.

We had such a great night, and my sister was pleasantly surprised !! she had an amazing time, even won a dance competition at Stones in Edward Street (i think the pole dancing classes payed off) luck thing they had a pole for her to strut her stuff on !!!

Cougar Lounge Fantasy Party

I love to dress up. Its always so much fun to see what outfits people come up with when allowed to go wild and become their fantasy!!!

Last week at Cougar Lounge we had a fantasy dress up party and to my great suprise a lot of people came dressed up. It was soooo much fun.

We had R5 shooter specials, tons of other specials like 2 Dbl Brandy and Coke's for only R30.00 Single Vodka and Redbull for R25.00.

The party really got started when the ladies got up onto the bar and started dancing, it was soo much fun and even the customers got up and joined in on the fun!!!

I really had fun on this night, i came dressed as a bunny, Jacki as a Nurse and Tanya came as a police woman. There were also Medics, doctors and fireman. Deffinately going to do this again and SOON. Hope next time you will all be joining us

I was very lucky to get this one, and in truth i did not do much work for it, Halo would be the guys to take credit for it. But i was lucky enough that they picked my venue to host this really amazing night. Halo were approached by Ministry of Sound to bring world renowned Dutch D.J Sander Van Dien to Cape Town for one night.

Wow what a night, Sander is such a great guy who not only knows how to read a crowd but takes the time to speak to them and make friends. His set was off the charts. no one could sit, everyone was on the floor shaking it, until the sun came up.

I have added some photos of this event cause it was HOT!!!

Thanks to Halo and Sander for an awesome evening. Love you guys
